The Coolest Cold from the Cleanest Heat: A Recap of the RE-WITCH Webinar 26. May 2025

What if the heat your factory throws away could be used to power your cooling needs? That’s the challenge RE-WITCH is taking on, and during our latest webinar, “The Coolest Cold from the Cleanest Heat,” we showcased how we’re making that vision real.

The webinar gave participants an inside look at the technologiesdemo sites, and strategies behind RE-WITCH, an EU-funded project developing low-carbon industrial cooling and heating solutions powered by waste heat and renewables

We introduced three core technology lines:

  • Absorption systems using heat to deliver cooling, even at two different temperatures simultaneously
  • Adsorption chillers with modular designs for flexibility and easier integration in existing factories
  • Renewable energy through solar thermal

We also explored hybrid systems that combine thermal and electric input to deliver both heating and cooling in one cycle. A smart solution already being tested in a Spanish dairy plant.

But innovation doesn’t stop at the machine level. We walked through how the project is planning the integration of these systems into 4 industrial demo sites (in Poland, Spain, Greece, and Italy) using digital twin technology, adapting designs to real factory conditions, from biorefineries to paper mills.

Finally, we looked beyond the tech, diving into business modelsreplication strategies, and the EU policy landscape supporting the shift to cleaner cooling, including new regulations on waste heat recovery and product sustainability.

The RE-WITCH webinar made one thing clear: cooling from waste heat isn’t just possible…. It’s powerful, practical, and already underway!
